Laptops became a must for most professions, whether we’re talking about insurance or construction managing.. If you’re a student or worker of construction management looking for a buyer’s guide to choosing your laptop – then this guide is for you.

To simplify this buyer’s guide, this guide will be divided into three segments:

  • Performance
  • Durability
  • Appearance

Performance: A Must For Students

Despite the working type, the main focus of a laptop is performance. For doing data management jobs & other works related to construction, you’ll need a high-performing laptop. To become ensure your laptop’s performance, you’ll need to check the following parts of your laptop:

  • RAM: The Bigger, The Better
  • Processor: The Higher The Better
  • Storage: SSD’s Are Better
  • Display: Better Pixel Density
  • Battery BackUp: The Longer, The Better

RAM: The Bigger, The Better

Aim for a laptop with RAM of 8GB or higher. Typically, you can get a computer with 16 GB RAM without any problem, but it’ll be a little bit expensive compared to an 8GB RAM laptop (obviously).

You’ll do mostly construction project management software work. This software demands a lot of RAM & processor power. Besides RAM, you’ll have to look at the Processor as well to choose the best laptop.

Processor: The Higher, The Better

Don’t choose any laptop or Chromebook with a processor lower than Intel Core i5. As a construction management worker or student, you’ll have to deal with software like BIM 360, Acculynx, Jonas Premier, Procore & so on. This software is mostly CPU power-hungry & you have to be aware of it.

Storage: SSD’s Are Better

In this era of SSD’s, don’t fool yourself into buying a laptop with an HDD drive. Though you’ll be getting less storage with SSDs, you’ll be rewarded with faster boot time & an overall powerful performance boost.

Still, look for SSDs of at least 256 GB. Otherwise, you’ll need to rely on an external storage system which isn’t very convenient as you’ll be going out daily. With that said, try getting a 256 GB SSD & any amount of HDD the laptop offers.

Display: Better Pixel Density

Battery BackUp: The Longer, The Better

No matter where you work – home or field, you’ll need a healthy battery backup to cope with work pressure. Consider getting a laptop with a 3+ cell lithium-ion battery. Those batteries tend to last more than two cell batteries no matter how optimized the Processor is.

Durability: Second Most Important Thing

It’s no wonder that you’ll be working in the field with a laptop. For this reason, accidents can happen & you may drop your laptop once in a while doing construction management work.

Enjoy the full potential of your laptop’s warranty. Typically you’ll be getting a one or two-year warranty with a laptop. Keep the document safe to safeguard your warranty.
